Job Offer in Jordan. Seeking: Legal Officer – Norwegian Refugee Council
Job Purpose Summary
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been operational in Jordan since November 2012 and offers a variety of essential humanitarian assistance in Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps including provision of shelter, distribution of essential non-food items and provision of educational facilities. The NRC recently started a housing upgrading programme in peri-urban areas to increase and improve the availability of affordable housing opportunities for Syrian refugees in host communities.
The legal officer will provide information and counselling to programme targets and coordinate relationships with local partners including legal aid organisations, externally contracted private lawyers and the Bar Association.
•Provision of counselling and advice to programme targets through outreach. Referral of cases requiring in-court work to partners and locally contracted private lawyers.
•Provision of trainings to NRC staff, targets and relevant partners on legal and regulatory matters. Development of training materials for use in such sessions.
•Coordination of external partner relationships with local organisations, privately contracted lawyers and the Bar Association.
•Oversight of legal information and counselling activities undertaken with local partner organisations.
•Regularly meet with partners to review case progress and evaluate quality and appropriateness of legal services provided.
•Ensure partner organisations fully comply with agreed case management and client handling procedures.
