The strategic objective of this project is to enable communities in rural Jordan to reduce water demand through improved management. CBIWDM will promote citizen participation in and between communities and clusters of communities to address water demand and conservation issues. CBIWDM will work in all twelve governorates in Jordan with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), empowering them to create and manage revolving loan funds that support poor rural communities in adopting innovative water demand management solutions. The four immediate objectives of the project are to:
 Build the capacity of 175 Community Based Organizations to implement lending programs that improve community water demand management.
 Establish and oversee an effective and sustainable lending system for community water management activities.
 Scale up project impact by raising awareness of lessons learned among government, policymakers and donors.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for liaising between the Yarmouk Water Company and the CBIWDM project. He/she will be seconded to the Yarmouk Water Company to support YWC in responding to water network emergencies, and facilitating infrastructure works between YWC and CBIWDM. He/she will be responsible for ensuring consensus and buy in for proposed CBIWDM water network infrastructure and construction works, as well as building capacity for maintenance of those works by YWC. He/she will also build capacity of YWC to build positive relations with the targeted community and customers. This will be achieved by building communications capacity of the customer service department and building capacity for community outreach. He/she .will work closely both with management, and support staff (including finance, administration and program) to ensure the day to day activities are implemented according to schedule, and budget. He/she will also be responsible for data collection and reporting on M&E requirements for the YWC-support component of the project. He/she will report to the Municipal Water Engineering Director.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
 Facilitate YWC outreach with communities with respect to implementation and maintenance of infrastructure works.
 Contribute to overall identification of, and response to water supply infrastructure needs and works in target communities by YWC and in coordination with CBIWDM.
 Adhere to work plans and budgets for implementation of the infrastructure component of the project.
 Build capacity of YWC for maintenance of infrastructure works.
 Build communications capacity of YWC customer service department.
 Build community outreach and awareness capacity of YWC in target communities.
 Regularly collect data to measure progress success against milestones and identified project indicators.
 Report on project progress for YWC-support components.
 Ensure establishment and maintenance of relationships with communities, village councils and local government in the target districts.
 Attend and actively participate in all staff and project meetings and in the CBIWDM Meetings.
 Other duties as assigned.
 Ability to work effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environmental.

• A bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering or related field, graduate degree preferred.
• Approximately 3-5 years of experience in engineering design or construction, out of which a minimum of 2 years on water related projects.
• Experience in working with NGOs, CBOs and local communities on community outreach.
• Good written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic.
• Relevant experience with the local community in Jordan is preferred.
